What Really Goes On in the Teachers’ Lounge?
by Ovinabo B. and Hassam U.
Have you wondered what happens inside the teachers’ lounge? We have! You may think that they always party or just sit around, eat, and work. They do it all!
On Wednesdays, they always have bagels, fruit, chips and guacamole. They also have a coffee machine so whenever they want, they can have tea or coffee--if they bring their own coffee pods. And back in the day, there was a VENDING MACHINE! The room is now just an average room and will be a classroom next year. It’s what happens inside the room that’s interesting.
The teachers talk about many things in the teachers' lounge, like their students and their own kids. They talk about the weather (yup, the weather), what their classrooms are doing, and what other teachers’ students are doing. They aren't that secretive, but this is just what they let us know. Ms. Rubin, a third grade teacher, loves to relax, rewind, check her emails, and read her blogs.
Another thing you might not have known is that on every Wednesday, teachers have Treat Day in which one or two teachers put out treats for the school staff to eat. Each week, a different teacher does this. Some teachers also do something special on holidays. When their students are in a special class like Gym or Art, they go to the lounge and eat treats! We wanted to know what they serve, so we went into the Teachers Lounge on a special day (St. Patty’s Day) and got a picture of the layout of the food, courtesy of Mrs. Halkias. Doesn't the food look AMAZING?!
The teachers have small parties before school in the lounge when someone has been married, had a child, etc., and they have food and decorations like in the above picture.
Few things happen in the Teachers’ Lounge that are interesting. The teachers do what we expect them to do. But this is just what they’re showing us.
