FOOD CHANGES IN THE LUNCHROOM?

Have you seen changes in the lunchroom in Devonshire School? Well, according to Lisa D., a fifth grader, she believes that the portions of the meals have changed. When asked if the nacho chip portions have decreased, she stated, “Yeah totally! Before there were, like, a whole bag. Now there’s only like, three.” She added, “ I think, like, everyone gets the same amounts, But the amount of lunch is not as much as it used to be.”
Yuri S., another fifth grader, says, “We should have more lunch ‘cause we need energy and stuff.” When other students were asked about the food changes in the lunchroom, there were many similar responses. But there was one person who had a different response: Miss Brya Myers, the music teacher at Devonshire School. When asked if she noticed changes, she replied, “Not from the menu that the teachers order from.”
Ms. Thania Audicho, the head cook of Devonshire School, was asked if the portions have changed and how they give people equal amounts. She said, “We measure and weigh it.” This means that the cooks give everyone the same amount of food.
Some people were asked not just about the food changes, but also about the voice levels in the lunchroom. We picked up another quote from Lisa D. When asked, “Do you think the students should be able to talk during lunch, or should the students have a certain voice level when talking, like a 1 or a 2?” Lisa states, “Talk during Lunch. Because we don’t have as much free time because we already lost our second recess.” When we asked the same question to Mrs. Sharon Wolinetz, the LMC assistant and a lunchroom supervisor, she responded, “I prefer it to be a little quieter, but I know that this is your lunch time and the only time during the day that you get to be a little louder. What’s important is not the voice level, it’s being respectful in here.”
According to the majority of the students, there have been changes in the lunchroom. What do you think?
