After a jaw-dropping performance at Devonshire School’s Battle of the Books on Wednesday, April 9, with a stunning upset, it was The Firecrackers for the win. They went on to compete in the District 68 battle that Friday, April 11, where the winning team was Highland’s Dreamers. “To those kids who will be in 4th and 5th next year, I hope that you will take advantage of this event. It’s educational and extremely fun,” said Alyssa L. “Even if you lose, at least you still get pizza!”

Here are some interesting facts about Devonshire’s team and the Battle of the Books:
The Firecrackers
- Instead of having four team members, they had only three: Diana S., Alyssa L., and their captain, Grace M.
- They are all in ALP Advanced Reading.
- Two of them, Alyssa and Diana, are fifth graders. Grace is in fourth grade.
Devonshire’s Battle of the Books
- There were 14 teams.
- There were only two teams made up of three students this year. The rest had four students.
- The final battle was a three-way team battle.
- If a team wins, each student gets a medal. If a team doesn’t win, each student gets a certificate of participation.
- Everybody who participated in the battle, even those who didn’t win, goes to watch the District 68 battle.
- After the district battle, everyone come back to Devonshire and eats pizza and cookies.
